Saints' Shore Way

Yesterday took my friend Jeanne out for a day on the Baie de Morlaix coast, an area covered in the Saints' Shore Way book I researched and wrote early last year for the Morlaix and Lannion tourist boards. We had a windy picnic at St Samson and walked past the imposing Pierre Double (with the island fortress of the Chateau du Taureau ever-present in the background). Brief visits to Le Guerzit and Le Diben followed by a drink at Terenez completed our very leisurely trip, with no rain despite dire forecasts.

I've been reading back over your Saints' Shore Way book lately. Would you recommend going to the Château du Taureau? All the times we've been that way we've never visited it, but as our visit this year will coincide with the Journées du Patrimoine, and as we sadly no longer have dear old Molly with us, I thought we might make the trip.

Hi Lucy - very sorry about Molly. Yes, I think the Chateau du Taureau is worth a visit for its oddity and sad history. The ghosts of political prisoners and abandoned mentally ill members of aristocratic families lend a melancholic tinge, but it is architecturally interesting and gives a whole new perspective of the magnificent bay.

It is really a magnificent landscape and a perfect place for walking. My new favorite place for a good day by the sea !

Thanks, Jeanne. It's great in winter too when there's hardly anybody about.
